Boston sweeps Sunday spotlight.

WEST ROXBURY – Thus far this season, the Girls U14 Boston Brahmas have been playing on another plane, with their defense not allowing a goal yet and the offense putting countless into the opposing net. They once again look to be the team to beat.

The Girls U14 Southeastern Grizzlies have had success so far this season. Their one loss was to the Brahmas in a Week 1 showdown. On May 21, they wanted revenge.

Only allowing a single goal in their first two games, the red hot Girls U19 Natick Chill have looked superior in the first two weeks of the season. The Girls U19 Brahmas had a handful to deal with in the day’s later game.

Luckily for the Brahmas, Sunday was a day to remember as both girls teams came out with victories.

Girls U14 Division

Starting the day was the Girls U14 Division. The Southeastern Grizzlies headed back to the Jim Roche Community Ice Arena against the Boston Brahmas. In a Week 1 battle, the Brahmas over-powered the Grizzlies 9-0. Week 3 was not much different.

Within the first two minutes of last Sunday’s matchup, the Brahmas scored two quick goals by Zoe Tow and Madelyn McLeish. From there, Boston was hitting on a cylinders. All game long the Brahmas created goal opportunities. Tow and Sophia Kennedy both had a game to remember. Kennedy came up with a hat trick on the day, meanwhile Tow scored a goal and assisted on four separate occasions. Boston recorded six in the first, two in the second and two in the third. While their offense was putting up goals, the defense did not allow a single one. The Brahmas continued their shutout streak for a third straight game.

The final score for the game marked at Brahmas 10, Grizzlies 0.

Girls U19 Division

Sunday’s Girls U19 game was a battle of the offenses. The Chill struck first on the scoreboard. A little over a minute into the game, Mackenzie O’Neil used a fantastic backhand shot to score the game’s first goal making the score 1-0 Chill. Almost immediately afterwards, the Chill’s Hannah Murphy and Celia Blaszkowsky both displayed fantastic stickhandling to get around the Brahmas defense to score individual goals.

Even down three goals, the Brahmas were not rattled. They responded quick and strong. With the help of Gina Parlato and Olivia Jordan, Boston was able to tie the game 3-3 by the end of the first period.

Goals were traded back and forth with each team netting one in the second and third periods.

While the offenses for both team moved the puck well, the defenses allowed minimum damage. All game long, on the penalty kills, both teams did not give up a single goal. This created the help goalies Janelle Kelleher and Hannah Jackle needed to keep their teams a chance to win in the overtime shootout.

The Chill’s Jacqui Poulack hit the ice first and scored first with a wrist shot making it 1-0 in the shootout. Boston immediately tied it up by a fantastic backhand. Through the next six rounds, Kelleher and Jackle did not allow any puck into the net. In the eighth round, both teams were able to place the puck into the net making the shootout 2-2.

Then came the ninth.

The Chill’s Sarah Zeidan hit the ice. Trying to create space, Zeidan used a few puck moves to attack the right side of the net, but Kelleher made a phenomenal stick save. The save led to a Kristina Welch game-winning goal for the Brahmas on the other side.

The final score tallied at 6-5 Brahmas.
