Sabercats continue to shine, defeat Brahmas 8-3.

WEST ROXBURY – They have stood to all who dare oppose them. Even now, coming to an end of a run in which they have faced some of the better teams in the division, the Squirt South Shore Sabercats (9-0-0) continue to thrive. They kept their perfect season going on Sunday afternoon at the Jim Roche Arena in West Roxbury, defeating the Boston Brahmas (6-3-0) 8-3.

Things were looking good for the Brahmas through much of the first. They controlled play against the undefeated Sabercats early, their only hiccup through much of the first coming in the form of a shorthanded goal yielded to William Doherty at the 4:10 mark.

South Shore picked up the pace as the period went along, but the Brahmas stayed in lockstep with their visitors until a devastating final minute in which the Sabercats netted a pair in the final 17-seconds before the first break.

The game had turned. The last second goals and 3-0 lead put the Sabercats in position to take a strangle hold of the contest in the second. They did just that, Logan Greeley plucking a shot out of the air for a tip-in power play goal at 2:53, Brandon Perry delving a perfectly timed feed to Brady Boisvert on a 2-on-0 at 10:18, and then Ryan Vincent upping the advantage to 6-0 just 22-seconds after Boisvert’s score.

Even with the lopsided disadvantage, Boston – amongst the Gold Cup contending teams in the Squirt division – remained in the contest, striking quickly in the final minute of the second period and opening minute of the third to once swing the game’s direction.

Tatum Walker danced his way through a pair of defenders to get the Brahmas on the board at 14:13 of the second and then Matthew Carrara made it 6-2 just 28-seconds after the third period’s opening draw, putting Boston in control of the play.

The Brahmas proved their worth in the third, but it was not enough to overcome their deficit as the game’s final period was played to a 2-2 draw, resulting in a 8-3 Sabercats win.

Just eight days removed from being named MVP of the Squirt All-Star Game, Perry put up another monster effort to lead the South Shore assault, credited with a game-high two goal and game-high three assists for a game-high three points. Doherty also closed with a pair of goals for the Sabercats, Michael Berkerian three assists.

Alec Banosian led the Brahmas offense, credited with a pair of assists.
