Stingrays take advantage, score 10-3 win in Burlington.

BURLINGTON – After opening the season with back-to-back loses, the Peewee North Shore Stingrays (2-2-0) have started to get their season on track. They posted their second straight victory on Sunday, a 10-3 decision over the South Middlesex Coyotes (2-2-0) at the Burlington Ice Palace.

North Shore went to work early on Sunday, staking themselves a 2-0 lead barely three minutes into the contest. The first coming after some nice puck movement set up Daniel Storella for the score at 1:46. The second coming just over a minute later as Storella was back on the score sheet at 2:56.

South Middlesex keeping up with the Stingrays throughout, but Storella was only one able to find the back of the net in the opening 15-minutes, netting three of an eventual game-high four in that span.

The deficit was a manageable 3-0 for the Coyotes after the first, but the Stingrays got some help and discovered another gear in the second as they opened up a 7-0 advantage. Despite the margin, the Coyotes remained relentless and eventually broke through late in the second, Sam Taber carrying speed through the zone and going upstairs for the score at 10:24. A score that helped South Middlesex turn a corner as they carried play for the remainder of the period.

The momentum had swung in the Coyotes favor following Taber’s goal, but the Stingrays took it back as quickly as it came at the onset of the third. They were back on the scoreboard twice in the period’s first minute to do away with any comeback hopes. South Middlesex stayed in the fight, getting goals from Daniel Freedman and Chris Skelley in the game’s final period, but the Stingrays also had one more left in them. Eric Toto’s goal at 14:05 finalizing their 10-3 victory.

Storella’s four goals led the game in scoring, while five other Stingrays had multiple entries on the scoresheet. Paul Magalhaes (1G, 2A) was just behind with a three-point contest. Christian Iacoviello (2G), Toto (1G, 1A), Jack Rogus (1G, 1A) and Nick Lucich (2A) all were credited with two apiece.
