Raiders spike in second for 5-2 win.

FRANKLIN – Looking to stay in the hunt for the division’s top prize, the Varsity Raynham Raiders (4-4-1) traveled to Pirelli Veterans Arena in Franklin on Sunday and left following a 5-2 victory over the Norfolk County Hawks.

The Raiders struck first, but an opportunistic Hawks offense rallied in the first, Ben Giovanella and Nick Naumann each finding the net in the opening period to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead.

Norfolk County was in charge throughout the first, but the game had a much different feel when play resumed in the second period. The Raiders’ play picked up while Hawks’ netminder Ryan McGahey, who made a number of flashy saves in the first period to keep Norfolk County out front, appeared to suffer an injury, opening the door for Raynham.

The Raiders jumped at the opportunity, posting a four-goal period to take the lead and get in front of their host, 5-2. A lead they took into the game’s final period.

Norfolk County found their stride again in the third, but it was not enough to catch-up to the Raiders, who clamped down on their three-goal advantage, sealing the win.

Paul Vey led the Raynham offense, posting a pair of goals in Sunday’s contest, seconded by a pair of assists from Paul Marino, one on each of Vey’s scores. Matt Delano, Kyle Smith and Ryan McSweeney all also recorded goals in the win.
