Coyotes dominant in 8-0 win.

RAYNHAM – The road to repeat on their 2013 Silver Cup Championship is still a long one for the Varsity South Middlesex Coyotes (3-6-1), but the mission may have gotten back on track this past weekend following a dominant, 8-0 defeat of the Raynham Raiders (6-4-0) on Sunday at the Raynham IcePlex.

It was the tale of two different teams, everything going right for one, not so much for the other, and not so much in the way one would have guessed based on the teams residence on opposite ends of the standings entering the contest. From the drop of the puck, the game belonged to the Coyotes, things going from bad to worst for the Raiders once Max Giesen put away the game’s first goal at 3:07 of the first period.

As the game wore on, the Raiders seemed to have no answers for the Coyotes on either end of the ice, South Middlesex building up a 3-0 lead through one, which quickly became 4-0 early in the second as the Coyotes started the frame with 1:28 of a 5-on-3 advantage. The power play goal a long range shot from the point credited to Brian Fager after finding its way through a screen at 1:18.

The Coyotes doubled up their lead in the second period, Parker Sutton adding to Fager’s goal at 4:30, putting away a rebound after being in the right spot to collect and convert, and then Matt Gill kicking in the third of the period in the closing minutes after picking up the puck in the neutral zone, avoiding the open ice hit and walking in all alone for a 6-0 lead heading into the final 15:00.

With the game well in hand, the Coyotes closed it out with another pair in the third period to complete the 8-0 victory. Both Sutton and Dylan Smith were credited with two goals in the contest, while Scott Douglass backstopped the shutout.
